What does Healthcare Professionals USA do?

We directly employ and educate foreign-trained nurses to work in world-class hospitals in the US. HPU offers a unique on-the-job training opportunity for personal development and professional growth.

How long does the application process take?

Each applicant’s situation is unique. HPU will work with you on a one-to-one basis to expedite your application.

In most cases, the process can take 8 weeks of screening and evaluation. Nurses that apply from outside of the US will go through an additional immigration process. The time may vary depending on your country of origin.

What does the application process involve?
  1. Start by completing an online application, visiting one of our Job Fairs or similar recruiting event for an introduction to the Healthcare Professionals USA Program.
  2. Afterwards, our HPU bilingual English-Spanish Program Advisors will help you gather all of the required paperwork to make this a seamless process.
  3. Then, HPU’s Human Resources staff will finalize your relocation and give you the last details regarding your new employment opportunity.

Can HPU find employment for my spouse or other family members?

HPU will offer you guidance regarding employment opportunities in your hospital’s area. This process must begin with an updated résumé for any job seeker who is actively searching for opportunities via job banks like Monster.com for example, and other local listings.

What salary will HPU pay me?

The salary is only part of the whole package offered through our program. Therefore, as you are involved in our program, you will receive various forms of compensation, including base pay, housing, educational and other benefits.

Your salary will include a base pay, years of experience and overtime, which is time and a half – 1.5 times the normal rate.

What other benefits does HPU provide me as part of this program?

In three years, you will be a RN and have zero college debt incurred from studying at Lamar University. You will also be eligible for new full time employment with your host employer at a higher salary and may initiate the process for Permanent Residency in the US (for foreign educated nurses).

Other numerous benefits and significant costs born by HPU include the following:

  • Airfare to the US (including two checked bags)
  • One time relocation assistance upon arrival in the US
  • 3 Month’s free housing including water, electricity, cable & internet
  • Monthly housing allowance thereafter for the term of your contract
  • Monthly Health Insurance premiums (Medical* & Dental*)
  • Full Nursing Liability Insurance premiums
  • Life Insurance premiums
  • Lamar University’s Professional Development Program for NCLEX Preparation
  • Special discounted rate for Lamar’s RN to BSN and MSN programs. Tuition for this is deducted from your paycheck weekly.

  • Evaluation of credentials service and licensure verification

*Dependents of the nurse applicant may be added to his/her insurance policies but those premiums will be deducted from his/her paycheck.

Where will I be placed on long-term assignment in the US?

Your 3 year assignment will depend on your experience and where that best fits with the needs of our hospital partners. HPU works diligently to find facilities that are a good match based on your nursing expertise and professional goals.

Do I have a choice of where I will be employed?

HPU will take into consideration the cultural fit between our candidate nurses and the profile of first-class hospitals in Texas to provide you with opportunities to grow professionally. We will match your personal preferences with one of our host hospitals for the best placement.

Who pays for my flight to the US?

Please note that HPU will pay for your ticket, plus two checked bags. We are not able to pay the cost of airfare for your spouse, children or other family members, however, we are happy to share your flight information as early as possible so you and your loved ones can travel together. HPU can also provide transportation for them to their new housing.

Upon confirmation of your landing date, we will organize an HPU traveling party so you get to know your new colleagues during the trip to Texas. When you land, an HPU landing team will be at the airport to welcome you and pick you up.

Where will I live?

HPU will arrange your housing in close proximity to your hospital employer for the first three months of your contract. You will live with other HPU housemates of the same gender in the same apartment.

What housing amenities do the living facilities include?

Most will include a pool, gym and laundry amongst others. Once your landing date is confirmed, our HR office will share photos and links to the facilities and local places of interest.

Are pets allowed where I will live?

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at the initial housing facilities. After the first three months living in HPU accommodations, our partner realtors will find you a pet friendly home.

How long does HPU pay for my housing?

HPU will cover the full expense of your housing for the first three months of your contract. This includes water, electric, cable and internet.

Does HPU provide me with a housing allowance after the first three months?

Yes, HPU will give you a housing allowance for each full month of the life of your contract.

What does the NCLEX prep course look like?

Lamar University offers 3 continuing education courses and a final diagnostic exam based on your knowledge of nursing. Each course lasts 8 weeks, is done online and is fully covered by HPU.

Does HPU pay for:

  • me to take the NCLEX Exam Preparation course? Yes!
  • me to take the NCLEX Exam? Yes!
  • the costs of my licensing requirements? Yes!
What happens if I decide that I don’t want to participate in the program any longer before my contract is finished?

HPU does a rigorous screening process that includes an assessment of the willingness and realistic expectations of our nurse candidates to relocate to the US.

The three-year professional development and academic offerings are an outstanding opportunity to build your résumé with on-the-job training at a world-class healthcare facility.

While we wish that all of our nurses complete their long-term assignment in the US, it is your right to leave the program and HPU will do everything we are entitled in order to recover the investment we have already made in your personal and professional development. This may vary depending on the individual’s circumstances and reason for leaving the program early.

Do I need a laptop to participate in this program?

Yes, our educational programs are designed specifically for people who are working full-time. For this reason, your laptop is necessary.

Additionally, you will need a smartphone (iOS or Android) in order to keep track of your hours worked and to ensure you are paid in a timely manner.
